BAKERSFIELD – On Friday, March 16, 2007, Congressmen Kevin McCarthy and Jim Costa will hold a bipartisan listening session in Bakersfield on President Bush’s proposals for the 2007 Farm Bill. Both Congressmen serve on the House Agriculture Committee and will help craft the Farm Bill reauthorization later this year.
“Our farmers and ranchers’ voices need to be heard when Congress rewrites the farm bill this year,” said McCarthy. “Serving Kern County on the Agriculture committee, my friend, Congressman Costa, and I are holding this listening session to gain a more complete perspective of the agriculture issues in Kern County so that when we work on the Farm Bill later this year, we can work together to bolster the strength of the Central Valley’s great agricultural economy.”
“The 2007 Farm Bill will be one of the most important pieces of legislation to come out of the 110th Congress,” Costa said. “It is imperative that the Central Valley agriculture industry make its view heard.”
The Listening Session will be held in the Kern County Board of Supervisors Chamber from 9:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. and offers an opportunity for residents to discuss their concerns of issues related to the 2007 Farm Bill.
