Whether it be oil, gas, coal, nuclear, biomass, solar, wind or other types of renewable energy, Congressman Rohrabacher believes America should be fully utilizing all domestic energy resources.

Our country must avoid being hamstrung on this issue by radical environmental extremists. For example, these special interest groups do not support nuclear technology despite its proven efficiency and safety. They even oppose establishing solar power plants in unpopulated stretches of desert and wasteland. Frustrated with the continued bureaucratic logjams, Congressman Rohrabacher introduced H.R. 6527, the “Emergency Solar Power Permit,” in 2008. Congressman Rohrabacher’s bill eliminates bureaucratic red tape and expedites the approval of over 130 pending applications for solar power projects on federal land.

"Regulatory and political obstructionism has created this energy shortage that has lead to such high prices," said Rohrabacher. "These bureaucratic impediments are now even damaging the possibility of fully utilizing solar energy which is the supposed darling of the environmental movement. This bill helps remove some of those regulatory roadblocks for solar energy and we need to be moving forward on all fronts to address the current energy crisis."

During the upcoming Congress, Rep. Rohrabacher looks forward to supportinglviable renwable energy technologies such as the high temperature gas reactor. This technology is a new system already deployed in Japan, that minimizes waste, maximizes safety, and cannot be weaponized. Most importantly, high temperature gas reactor technology has the potential to significantly reduce the amount of nuclear waste stored at the Yucca Mountain facility in Nevada.
