DC – House Financial Institutions and Consumer Credit Subcommittee
Chairwoman Carolyn B. Maloney (D-NY) today announced her plans to
introduce the “Credit Cardholders’ Bill of Rights Act of 2009” in the
House, joining with Sens. Charles Schumer and Mark Udall who are
sponsoring the companion legislation in the Senate. This comprehensive
credit card reform legislation is aimed at leveling the playing field
between credit card companies and consumers and abolishes industry
abuses that have been described by regulators as “unfair,” “deceptive”
and “anti-competitive.”

Washington, D.C. – This afternoon, Congresswoman Carolyn B. Maloney (D-NY) joined a sizable majority of her House colleagues in passing, for a third time, an expansion of the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP). President Bush twice vetoed a similar measure in the last Congress, but President-elect Obama is expected to sign the new bill once he takes office.

Maloney (D-NY) joined with officials from the National Archives in Washington to announce that a new collection of documents from the 9/11 Commission will available for public review at the Archives beginning on January 14th. The records include information on the 9/11 terrorists, past terrorist events, al Qaeda, and related subjects. The records also contain information concerning the emergency responses to the attacks in New York City and Washington, D.C.
