HOMELAND TASK FORCE CHAIR ON NEW RNC AD: |
President short-changes homeland security, preempts our self-defense here at home |
WASHINGTON, DC - The Republic National Committee (RNC) has released a new ad defending President Bush's plan for the War on Terrorism that will begin running Sunday in Iowa. The ad shows President Bush at the State of the Union saying, "It would take one vial, one canister, one crate to slipped to this country to bring a day of horror like we have ever known," and defends his policy of "preemptive self-defense."
House Democratic Task Force on Homeland Security Chair Carolyn Maloney (NY-14), who has been a strong advocate of beefing up hometown security with additional federal resources, today reacted to the ad: "Self defense starts at home," said Maloney. " The RNC should tell the voters the full story - 'one crate' of horror may well get through our borders if this administration keeps shortchanging our security. Voters would be shocked to know that at most 4% of incoming cargo is inspected - that's probably smaller than the percentage of cargo inspected in Iraq. "Instead of promoting 'preemptive self-defense' abroad in their advertising, they should be focusing on how the president preempts funding our self-defense here at home." ### |
