Maloney Joins Hank Carter at Ceremony Donating Wheelchairs

NEW YORK, NY - Congresswoman Carolyn B. Maloney (D-Roosevelt Island, Manhattan and Queens) joined Hank Carter, President and Founder of Wheelchair Charities, at a ceremony donating wheelchairs to patients of Coler-Goldwater Hospital. Wheelchair Charities raises over $1 million annually to provide wheelchairs, equipment and other amenities to disabled patients at Coler-Goldwater Hospital. At today’s ceremony, dozens of people were given new wheelchairs, and hospital administrators demonstrated some of the sophisticated diagnostic, rehabilitative and communications equipment purchased by Wheelchair Charities and donated to the hospital.

Surrounded by members of the wheelchair basketball players from Coler-Goldwater, Congresswoman Maloney made the following statement:

“New Yorkers are truly fortunate that Hank Carter chose to devote his life to raising mony for wheelchairs and other equipment for the disabled. Over the last 30 years, he has made the difference for thousands of people - helping them become independent, providing the means for them to connect with the world, even making it possible for some of them to play basketball.

“He has helped make Coler-Goldwater Hospital one of the premier centers for rehabilitation. Thanks to Hank Carter, Coler-Goldwater gives more wheelchairs to patients
than any other facility in the country. It is truly an astonishing record - one New Yorkers should be very proud of.

“There is nothing more important than giving someone the gift of mobility. This wheelchair means independence, self-reliance, the freedom to explore the world and to play basketball if you wish. For those who have received chairs today, I hope it helps them go out
and pursue their dreams.

“Truly, we are all blessed to have someone as dedicated and motivated as Hank Carter, and the many people he has persuaded to give generously of their time and resources.”
