Terror Threat Level Lowered for Financial Centers; Homeland Security Task Force Chair Reacts |
WASHINGTON, DC - The Department of Homeland Security today lowered the threat level for financial centers in New York City, northern New Jersey and Washington, D.C. from orange to yellow. It had been elevated for the past few months because of reported specific threats to targets in those centers.
Rep. Carolyn Maloney (NY-14), Chair of the House Democratic Task Force on Homeland Security, said that the lower threat is good news, but the intelligence reform stalled in Congress is needed to more effectively secure America. "Some might question the timing of the threat announcements related to the election, but a lower threat level is always good news,” said Maloney. “Regrettably, New York City is constantly on high alert, regardless of the color coding. We can't really begin to feel that much safer until we directly respond to the failings highlighted by the 9/11 Commission. We must enact the intelligence reform that is presently stalled in Congress." ### |
