Collaborations with the National Institutes of Health and the Centers for Disease Control and PreventionNASA has Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) with the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease (NIAID), within the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). These MOUs were established to develop cooperative programs in the application of remote sensing and geographic information systems technologies (RS/GIS) to human disease. Through CHAART, NASA provides education, training, and expertise in the use of these technologies. A number of NIH studies have received supplemental funds from NASA to develop an RS/GIS component.CHAART staff collaborated on several NIH-funded research projects; these are listed below. In August 1995, members of the CHAART staff provided remote sensing training at a GIS course held in Guatemala City, Guatemala, co-sponsored by the CDC and the World Health Organization's Tropical Disease Research program (TDR). The success of the course led to another CDC/TDR/CHAART training course in Wuxi, China, in November 1998. Current Research CollaborationsCHAART was a collaborator on the following projects:
