Moore to host online town hall meeting to discuss Social Security

Congressman working to fulfill commitment to retirement security

(OVERLAND PARK, KAN.) – Congressman Dennis Moore (Third District -- Kansas) will host an online town hall meeting at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, June 7, 2005, to discuss the future of Social Security and answer questions from his constituents.

“Congress is currently considering various proposals to strengthen and improve Social Security,” Moore said. “While the Social Security program is a commitment we made to our parents and grandparents two generations ago, the future of Social Security remains an important issue for all of us. Your perspective on these issues truly helps me serve you better, and I look forward to answering any questions you might have.”

In recent months, Moore hosted Social Security seminars in each county in his district. The online town hall meeting was planned in an effort to reach constituents who were unable to attend those events as well as to provide a forum for younger workers.

“Although retirement seems far away in the future for many younger workers, it is important to get informed now,” Moore said. “Young people will be the most affected by any changes to Social Security, and we need to ensure Social Security is going to be there for them.”

The event is free and open to the public by logging onto http://demcaucus.townhall.house.gov/. If you are unable to participate, please considering submitting questions prior to the event and check back after June 7 to read the complete transcript.
