In our program, students started asking for sports (volleyball or
something), but as we discussed it they said maybe something along the lines
of dance -- in our case it would be baile folklórico -- Mexican folk
dancing, I suppose you could call it. I think that would be terrific (and a
lot of fun for me as well). Then a woman came in with bruises, and the focus
shifted to self-defense. I'm not sure yet what we're going to do.

 I attended once a demonstration by belly dancers who said that dance
classes are a big hit among women prisoners. Belly dancing gives them a new
self-worth by revealing a hidden value in their bodies (not to mention how
good it ought be for their backs).
