Thanks Miriam for the historical information about our nations linguistic 
history.   That is appreciated.

It seems that although there has always such a wealth of linguistic diverse 
communities in this country, people ignore this part of our history and 
assume that everyone has always spoken English after effortlessly learning 
it.
