My conclusion: Women are more willing to take risks with their language. Women are more eager to assimilate into the new culture (partly adventure, partly necessity as the emotional bulwark of the family). Women don't come with the same "displacement" anger...there is as much loss in status as many men experience. Interesting stuff. Tom Smith Community College of Vermont
