Judith,

For more information on local programs, go to America's Literacy Directory:
www.literacydirectory.org. You will be prompted to enter in a zip code or
city, state to get information on programs that offer services for reading,
math, GED and ESL. You will have to contact the programs directly to see if
they have the resources needed for your student.

Below is a list of programs in Newport News Area. You can also try to do a
search in Hampton, just across the river.

You can also try to contact the Newport News Adult & Continuing Education
office:
	Coordinator: Gloria Thomas
	Warwick High School Room 108
	Phone: (757) 591-4730
	Email: gloria.thomas@nn.k12.va.us

I hope this information is useful for you. Best of luck to your student.

Sincerely,
Jo Maralit

Subject: [NIFL-ESL:8870] Correction: Search for Literacy Tutor

Hello: Earlier I had sent out an email seeking advice for a student in
great need of a 1-to-1 literacy tutor, for issues in reading, writing, and
math. The student is 22 years old, and from Washington, DC, but has been
educationally deprived.
She is also LD. We have tried the standard search, but are told nothing is
available where she is. I thought she had moved to the Norfolk area, but as
it turns out she is living in Newport News. Sorry for the mix-up.

Once again--with apologies--does anyone have any ideas?
