Page Nominations

The Constituent Page Program consists of high school students who are hired to serve the U.S. House of Representatives. Currently there are 72 Page positions available in the House of Representatives with 48 slots reserved for Democrat pages.

Eligibility
Eligibility for the Page program during the academic year is limited to high school juniors with a 3.0 GPA or higher in the core academic subjects. Applicants for the summer program is for rising juniors in high school. All applicants must be at least sixteen years old on the date they begin their Page term. Students related to a sitting Member of Congress may not serve as a Page.   Every applicant must have the sponsorship of Congressman Wexler. Due to the nature of the job, every applicant must be in good health, have plenty of stamina, and problem free feet.

How Are Pages Chosen?
The Page Program is administered through the Office of the Clerk, but Pages are selected through the majority and minority leadership and so all communication regarding the Page program must be made through the sponsoring Member.  If I am your sponsoring Member, please read below to see how to apply.

How to Apply
The preliminary application consists of a letter of interest and resume detailing extracurricular activities and other accomplishments. After submitting your preliminary applicaton, you may be asked for:
•  a high school transcript containing grades from ninth grade to the current semester,
•  a parental consent form,
•  a resume of extracurricular activities,
•  3 letters of recommendation,
•  a 50-100 word essay describing why the applicant would like to become a page,

Page Work Experience
The duties of a page are very important and consist primarily of delivering correspondence, legislative materials, and small packages within the congressional complex; answering phones in the Members’ Cloakrooms; taking messages for Members; and calling Members in the Chamber to the phone. Pages sometimes prepare the House Floor for sessions. To perform their duties, Pages must be able to do the following:
• Walk considerable distances in a day
• Carry and deliver packages of up to 25 pounds
• Answer phones and speak fluent English
The semester Pages report to work after classes and continue until 4:30 PM or until the House adjourns for the day.
The dress requirement for males is navy blazer, long sleeved white shirt, dark gray slacks, black socks, dark shoes, and a standard-issue tie (navy with red and white stripes). For females, a navy blazer, long sleeved white blouse, dark gray skirt or pants, black shoes, appropriate hosiery and a standard-issue tie (navy with red and white stripes) that is provided during orientation.

Page school
During the academic year, Pages are required to attend the Page school in addition to their responsibilities and receive full junior year credits. Beginning at 6:45 a.m., the school-year Pages attend five 40-minute classes at Page School. Located on the 4th floor (Attic Level) of the Library of Congress Jefferson Building, the Page School is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools.     Five courses are selected from the current school curriculum, consisting of:
• American, British or World Literature (all with composition), or Humanities
• Algebra II/Trigonometry, Trigonometry/Pre-Calculus or Pre-Calculus
• Physics or Chemistry
• U.S. History or Government and Politics
• Intermediate or Advanced French or Spanish.

Compensation and Fees
All Pages are compensated with a monthly salary of approximately $1,500. Automatic deductions will be made for federal and states taxes, Social Security, and the Residence Hall fees. Pages are paid on the last working day of the month. There is an initial $100 security deposit for the residency halls. An additional $400 monthly fee is required for the residence hall, which includes five breakfasts, six lunches, and five dinners per week and is automatically deducted from the Page's salary.
