9/11 Health and Compensation Act
Bill Cares for American Heroes from World Trade Center Attacks

Congressman Wexler is a lead cosponsor for the 9/11 Health and Compensation Act, legislation that provides health care, medical monitoring, and compensation to state residents and thousands of others who are sick or injured as a result of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

HR 3543 ensures medical monitoring for everyone who was exposed to the toxins released by the collapse of the World Trade Center towers, treatment for anyone who is sick as a result, and compensation for economic losses.

The collapse of the Twin Towers released massive dust clouds containing thousands of coarse and fine particulate matter, cement dust, glass fibers, abestoes, and other pollutants. Hundreds of thousands of people were exposed to the toxins of Ground Zero, including first responders; rescue, recovery, and clean-up workers; volunteers from all 50 states; and area residents, office workers, and schoolchildren.  Thousands of people are now sick as a result of their exposure.

This legislation establishes health programs to care for the heroic first responders and thousands of other Americans who came to New York to help assist with the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks.
