Wexler: President’s SCHIP Veto Slashes Health Care for Over 600,000 Florida Children
(Washington, DC) Today Congressman Wexler released the following statement in reaction to President Bush’s veto of bipartisan legislation to renew and expand the exceptionally successful and cost-effective State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP):
“The bill the President vetoed today would have provided 10 million American children – and over 600,000 children in Florida – with health care,” Wexler said. “By vetoing SCHIP, President Bush has shamefully rejected a truly bipartisan effort made by Congress and once again turned his back on the health care crisis in America. I am committed to working with my colleagues in Congress to make SCHIP into law, with or without the President’s support.”
###
Congressman Wexler is Chairman of the Europe Subcommittee and a senior member of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs and the House Judiciary Committee; and he also sits on the Financial Services Committee.
