Wexler: Children’s Health Care is at the Bottom of the Republican Agenda
Republicans Block Override of Presidents Childrens Health Care Veto

(Washington, DC)  Today, Congressman Wexler (D-FL) voted to override President Bush’s veto of the Children’s Health Insurance Act of 2007, which provides critical health care coverage to 10 million American children.  Despite the legislation’s strong bipartisan support at the local, state, and federal levels, the refusal of Republicans to override the President’s veto blocked the Democratic Congress’s effort to deliver relief to millions of families across the country struggling to afford proper medical care for their children.

“It is clear that children’s health care is at the bottom of the Republican agenda,” Wexler said. “The President’s veto of this legislation was despicable, but the fact that the vast majority of Republicans stood in the way of providing health care coverage to 10 million children is an unconscionable rejection of something that Americans overwhelmingly support.  Due to Bush’s veto and the unwillingness of Republicans to support health care for poor children, Florida must now prepare to deny coverage to over 600,000 kids."
