Wexler: General Pace is Unfit to Lead Wexler Condemns Joint Chief Chairman’s Reprehensible Anti-Gay Remarks
(Washington, DC) Today, Congressman Robert Wexler (D-FL) issued the following statement condemning the recent anti-gay remarks made by Marine General Peter Pace, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. In a recent interview with the Chicago Tribune, Pace called homosexuality immoral.
“General Pace’s comments are reprehensible and demonstrate that he is unfit to lead the diverse group of men and women who make up our armed forces. Bigotry, racism, homophobia, and anti-Semitism are disgusting in any form, but when those in positions of leadership espouse such sentiments, they legitimize the hate and biases that so many Americans fight everyday to end. Worst of all, Pace’s comments hurt our military morale and damage the war effort by condmening the morality of gay soldiers, even as these same soldiers fight and die in Iraq and Afghanistan.”
Congressman Wexler is Chairman of the Europe Subcommittee, a senior member of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs and the House Judiciary Committee, and he also sits on the Financial Services Committee.
