Wexler Organizes Briefing for Holocaust Survivors at FAU on Recently Opened Archive
US Holocaust Museum and FAU Holocaust Center to join Wexler in briefing survivors on the Bad Arolsen archives

(Washington, DC) Congressman Robert Wexler will co-host a briefing for Holocaust survivors in Boca Raton with the United States Holocaust Museum and the Center for Holocaust and Human Rights Education at Florida Atlantic University on Monday, March 10th at 2 p.m. The event will focus on the recently opened international Tracing Service Holocaust Archive at Bad Arolsen, which was mostly inaccessible to Holocaust survivors for over 60 years. Wexler, who chairs the Subcommittee on Europe and is a senior member of the House Committee on Foreign Relations, and Florida Congressman Alcee Hastings led congressional efforts to fully open the world's largest repository of holocaust archives. Wexler who has chaired two critical hearings on Holocaust related issues in the Europe Subcommittee  is a leading advocate for the rights of survivors in Congress.

“As member of Congress who represents one of the largest Holocaust survivor populations in the country, I believe we have a unique obligation to ensure that information from the International Tracing Service gets into the hands of survivors and their families,” Wexler said.  “This community forum is a crucial step towards providing survivors access to information unjustly denied to them for more than 60 years.  While the state of affairs surrounding the Holocaust will never be fully rectified, it is imperative that we continue to seek a resolution to these issues.”

Congressman Wexler will be joined by  Paul Shapiro, Director of the Center for Advanced Holocaust Studies and Arthur Berger, Senior Advisor at the US Holocaust Museum in addition to Dr. Rosanna Gates from FAU’s Center for Holocaust and Human Rights Education.  The event will take place Monday, March 10th at 2 p.m. in the Grand Palm Room of the University Center of FAU in Boca Raton.

Media interested in attending the event should contact Wendi Lipsich at Congressman Wexler’s office at 561-988-6302 or Andy Hollinger at the US Holocaust Museum at 202-488-6133.
