Currency, Coins and Medals
Introduction | Press Releases | Documents

As a senior member and former Ranking Member of the Financial Services Subcommittee on Domestic and International Monetary Policy (DIMP), I am extensively involved in the subcommittee’s work on coins, coinage, currency, and medals, including commemorative coins and medals, counterfeiting, currency denominations and design, the distribution of coins, and the operations of the Bureau of the Mint and the Bureau of Engraving and Printing. In the 109th Congress, I was the lead democrat on the Presidential $1 Coin Act, a bill which provides for a rotating dollar coin design featuring the Presidents of the United States in order of service on the model of the very successful rotating state quarter design. I was also a cosponsor of Congressional Gold medals to the Dalai Lama and the Tuskegee Airmen, and commemorative coins for the Little Rock Five, President Lincoln, and others, which became law in this Congress.
