Embryonic stem cell research continues to help scientists further understand the way this science can be used to treat a variety of diseases. In the 110th Congress, I voted with a bipartisan majority of my colleagues to pass the Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act, that was later vetoed by the President. This legislation would expand federal funding of embryonic stem cell research with the potential to help millions of Americans afflicted with disease. I am hopeful, with a newly-elected administration supportive of embryonic stem cell research, the ban on federally funded stem cell research will likely be lifted.
