Moore, local students to e-mail troops

(OVERLAND PARK, KAN.) – Congressman Dennis Moore (Third District -- Kansas) will help students in Kansas City and Lawrence e-mail support messages to American troops serving abroad through a link on his website, http://www.house.gov/moore/, to Operation Dear Abby.

“These past weeks have been difficult for all of us,” Moore said. “It is especially important that we help our children feel safe and secure in this uncertain time.”

In 1967, Sgt. Billy Thompson asked Abigail Van Buren for a Christmas present for service members -- a letter from home. Since that time "Operation Dear Abby," has helped bring greetings to hundreds of thousands of U.S. military personnel deployed around the world.
