Moore supports National Do Not Call List

(WASHINGTON, DC) – Congressman Dennis Moore (Third District – Kansas) today announced his support for the Federal Trade Commission’s consumer protection program, the National Do Not Call list.

“The Do Not Call list has been successful at helping Kansans limit telemarketer phone calls, and will be a useful program nationwide. I am glad that over 79,000 Kansans, including this one, have already signed up to protect their rights and privacy as consumers,” Moore said.

The Do Not Call website and Kansas phone registry were launched on Friday, June 27. By 5 p.m. on June 27, over 735,000 Americans had added their names to the list. The program will cooperate with individual state lists already in place to help citizens, meaning that if Kansans have registered with the statewide Do Not Call list, they are already signed up for the national list as well.

Federal enforcement of the national Do Not Call registry begins October 1. After that time, telemarketers who call consumers on the list could be fined up to $11,000. They will be required to check the Do Not Call list every three months to update their own lists. Officials expect up to 60 million phone numbers to be registered during the first year. Registrations will have to be renewed every five years.
