Wexler Votes for ADA Restoration Act of 2007
Bill improves laws protecting disabled individuals

Congressman Wexler voted with the House for H.R. 3195, the ADA Restoration Act of 2007.  Several recent court decisions have significantly narrowed the ADA definition of disability which has prevented many disabled individuals from being protected under the ADA.

The ADA Restoration Act will address these recent court decisions by focusing the law on whether an individual has been discriminated against in the workplace because of a disability, by establishing a wider scope of protection available under the ADA.  Such a change will ensure that disability is broadly defined which is consistent with the original intent of the ADA.

Rep. Robert Wexler strongly supports the important principles of the ADA Restoration Act, and is a cosponsor of this legislation. Since passage of the ADA seventeen years ago, we have made great strides towards acknowledging the rights of the disabled and ensuring that they are able to participate fully in society.  This legislation restores and protects the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 and ensures that these laws are implemented and enforced.
