National Research Council (NRC) Resident Research Associateships (RRA) Program
Program Description
Since 1954, the National Research Council, through its Associateships Programs Office, has conducted a national competition to make awards to outstanding postdoctoral and senior level scientists and engineers for tenure as guest researchers at the NASA field centers.
Regular Research Associateships are awarded to persons (holding recognized doctoral degrees in engineering and computer science) who have held the doctorate less than 5 years, and the Associateships are made initially for 1 year. Senior Research Associateships are awarded to applicants who have held a doctorate 5 years or more at the time of an award. Senior applicants should have research experience that has resulted in significant contributions and recognition as established investigators in their specialized fields.
Associates receive a stipend from the NRC while carrying out their proposed research. The current annual stipend for a Regular Associate at Dryden includes a salary ranging from $36,000 to $42,500 (depending on the discipline) plus benefits. An appropriately higher stipend will be offered to Senior Associates. The salary portion for an upper level Senior Associate ranges from $68,000 to $75,000.
Program Objective
The NRC RRA Program is intended to provide postdoctoral scientists and engineers of exceptional promise and ability opportunities for research on problems that are compatible with the research interests of Dryden.
Eligibility Requirements
Individuals may apply for this program if they meet the following requirements:
- Have a Ph.D., Sc.D., or other earned research doctoral degree recognized in the U.S. academic circles as equivalent to the Ph.D.
- Have full command of the English language.
- Be a U.S. citizen.
Application Process
To be considered for an award, each applicant must submit a research proposal that relates to a specific research opportunity at Dryden. Associated application materials are sent to the NRC.
