Disclaimer

FDA’s Centennial year is an ideal time to both celebrate and connect with the public.

As a result, FDA is partnering with Potomac Pedalers Touring Club (PPTC) in their annual Historic Back Roads Tour to be held on September 17, 2006, in Berryville, Virginia.  There will be cycling tours of 13, 25, 50, 62, and 100 miles to celebrate FDA’s Centennial.

This event provides the FDA with the opportunity to educate the public about our mission, our history, and our process. It also serves to provide the public with a clear image of our agency leading by example through employee participation in activities that encourage exercise, fitness, and overall personal health.

Saw Mill in the Shenandoah ValleyThe Historic Back Roads Tour is an annual event open to the public that gives riders the opportunity to enjoy the scenic Shenandoah Valley. It is one of the most attended rides of the season. The PPTC has a record of putting together a very well-run ride with plenty of rest-stops along the way for riders to take a break at their leisure. During the ride, participants travel past, and have the opportunity to visit, over 50 historical sites including churches, abbeys, mills, and estates.

There will be routes of 13, 25, 60, and 100 miles (though the fewer number of miles you go, the fewer sites you see). Information will be provided on how to train for these rides. In addition, there should be learning activities along the 13 mile route for children and families.

Cycling activities are an excellent opportunity for the FDA to spread the word during its Centennial year about our positive mission and put a face on a government institution often misunderstood. This will be an exciting public opportunity for FDA cyclists of all levels and the public to be involved, entertained, informed, and inspired.

Health Fair at Berryville

In addition to the bike ride, a health fair will be held at the 100-Mile cycling event to raise awareness for all types of health concerns and early detection.  FDA non-cyclists can participate by manning FDA and health-related informational booths.
