DOE Fact Sheets for Renters and Homeowners

DOE's Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) publishes a number of fact sheets about energy efficiency at home that are suitable for the average, non-technical homeowner. Although they are not specifically designed for low-income households, many of these topics are also of interest to weatherization clients.

EERE also publishes an informational booklet for homeowners that many states and weatherization agencies have used for educating weatherization clients about energy efficiency and titled, Energy Savers—Tips for Saving Energy and Money at Home (PDF 2.2 MB). Download Adobe Reader.

  • Consumer Information — EERE Information Center

    The DOE Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy publishes dozens of fact sheets targeted at consumers about energy efficiency at home. Many of these fact sheets deal with topics that address weatherization. In addition to the online fact sheets, all of the fact sheets are available free of charge by calling the EERE Information Center at 1-877-337-3463.

    EERE published this online compendium of suggestions for home owners on energy efficiency at home.

  • Healthy Homes for Healthy Children

    The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) publishes a series of online fact sheets about how to make your home safer for children.

  • Home Energy Saver

    The DOE Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory gives you online advice on how best to save energy at home based on where you live and what your current level of energy consumption. The advice includes approximate payback for your investments in different energy conservation measures.
