Moore secures funding for transportation projects in Kansas

Appropriations bill includes $1.9 million requested by the Congressman

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) – The U.S. House approved funding Wednesday evening obtained by Congressman Dennis Moore (Third District – Kansas) for several transportation-related projects in Kansas. The funding was included in H.R. 5576, the Transportation, Treasury, Housing and Urban Development, the Judiciary, the District of Columbia and Independent Agencies Appropriations Act for Fiscal Year 2007.

“This federal funding will help strengthen the public transportation system and enhance the economic potential of our communities,” Moore said. “Not only will this funding improve public transit in Kansas, this investment in transportation will help create jobs and spur the economy.”

The Transportation, Treasury, Housing and Urban Development, the Judiciary, the District of Columbia and Independent Agencies Appropriations Act for Fiscal Year 2007 now moves to the Senate for approval. Moore will continue working with U.S. Senators Sam Brownback and Pat Roberts to enhance funding for these projects in the Senate version of the bill.

“Continued investment in our region’s transportation infrastructure and economic development is vital to the future of Kansas,” Moore said. “I am pleased my colleagues agree that these projects are worthy of federal funding and approved my requests.”

Moore obtained federal funds for the following Kansas projects:

  • $750,000 for Unified Government of Wyandotte County/Kansas City, Kansas Transit buses/bus facilities
  • $500,000 for Johnson County Transit bus replacement
  • $250,000 for Kansas City Area Transit Authority bus replacement
