CORPS OF CADETS

Military colleges have a long and proud tradition in American history and were not designed solely for students planning military careers. The Corps of Cadets prepares students to become competent and responsible citizens. Norwich, established in 1819, was the first of all private military colleges in the country. Our founder, Captain Alden Partridge, understood that structured military lifestyle combined with rigorous academics would benefit those pursuing careers in both the military world and the private sector. His vision resulted in the creation of the Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC). As the birthplace of ROTC, Norwich houses all four branches of the armed services—Army, Navy, Marines and Air Force—as well as a Coast Guard commission track. Our Corps of Cadets program allows individuals to gain military experience while earning a degree.

At Norwich, our objective is to provide an environment of growth, encouraging our students to become stronger and more determined leaders. During our Corps leadership training, cadets confront daily issues that challenge and define their character as future leaders. They learn to take responsibility for their actions, support their comrades in pursuit of a common goal, and to step up, take charge and lead from the front. Those who rise to the mental and physical challenge of life as a cadet are rewarded with useful life skills, self-confidence and self-discipline.

Graduates of Norwich make a difference in the world as leaders of business, government and the military. They understand the values of initiative, integrity, honor and loyalty. They understand that a job well done is its own reward. Why? In the Corps of Cadets, students gain the practical experience, knowledge and strength of character to try, no matter what obstacles they face.
