“I join people around the world in mourning the passing of Pope John Paul II, one of the world’s most influential leaders in the search for peace and justice.

“Pope John Paul II was an example to millions of people as he created a better world by hastening the fall of Communism and supporting human rights against oppressive dictatorships. His dedication to inter-faith understanding built bridges between people of all ages, nationalities and religions.

“Pope John Paul II was a beloved world leader who has completed his journey, found peace and will be missed around the world. His legacy of compassion continues to inspire us as people of all faiths join together to grieve this loss.”
