Napolitano Announces Upward Bound Funds for Cal Poly Pomona and Rio Hondo College
Congresswoman Grace Napolitano (D-CA38) is pleased to announce that Cal Poly Pomona and Rio Hondo College have both been awarded funding through the U.S. Department of Education’s Upward Bound Program. Cal Poly Pomona received $499,496 and Rio Hondo College received $277,677. “I am delighted to have helped secure these funds for our community. The Upward Bound Program allows our local colleges and universities to reach out to low-income high school students and help prepare them for success in college,” stated Napolitano.
“Whenever I speak to young people, I always emphasize the importance of obtaining a college education. But many young people in the communities I represent have obstacles to overcome to reach that goal. Upward Bound provides intensive academic instruction and support to participants in their preparation for college. It also helps participants complete their college admissions and financial aid applications,” explained Napolitano.
“I am sure that both institutions will make excellent use of the funds to benefit deserving young people and help ensure their future academic and professional success,” the Congresswoman concluded.
