Ellsworth Request for USI Campus Perimeter Road System Approved
WASHINGTON - Living up to his pledge to disclose projects that are on track to receive federal funding, Rep. Brad Ellsworth today announced Congress has approved federal funds to construct a perimeter roadway and improve safety for pedestrians and motor vehicles at the University of Southern Indiana (USI). The $350,000 in funding was included as part of the FY 2008 Omnibus Appropriations measure approved by both chambers this week.
The funds were requested by USI and will be used to construct a perimeter roadway to reduce traffic in the center of the USI campus and improve traffic flow from State Highway 62 and University Parkway. In addition, the project will result in improved intersections, wider travel lanes, pedestrian bridges and crosswalks to improve pedestrian and motorist safety.
"By making improvements to the transportation system around campus, these funds will help increase the safety of students and motorists at USI," said Ellsworth. "I am proud to have supported this project, and I hope the President will sign the bill into law soon."
"The redesign of the Campus Perimeter Transportation System will enhance pedestrian and traffic safety on the USI campus. We are very grateful for Congressman Ellsworth's efforts on behalf of the University of Southern Indiana," said USI President H. Ray Hoops.
The FY 2008 Omnibus Appropriations measure was approved by the House and Senate earlier this week. The President is expected to sign the bill into law.
