Ellsworth Request for USI Advanced Engineering Laboratory Equipment Approved
WASHINGTON - Living up to his pledge to disclose projects that are on track to receive federal funding, Rep. Brad Ellsworth today announced Congress has approved federal funds for advanced manufacturing and engineering equipment for the University of Southern Indiana (USI). The $750,000 in funding was included as part of the FY 2008 Omnibus Appropriations measure approved by both chambers this week.
The funds were requested by USI and will be used to equip the new College of Business and Engineering Building with state-of-the-art engineering equipment. USI's engineering program is one of only two state-supported programs in Indiana.
"The strength of Indiana's economy rests on maintaining a technology savvy, well-trained workforce. This funding will help ensure USI graduates have the cutting-edge training and skills Indiana businesses need to compete in the global economy," said Ellsworth. "I am proud to have supported this project, and I hope the President will sign the bill into law soon."
"The Advanced Manufacturing/Engineering Laboratory equipment will allow the University to continue to produce a highly trained and technologically competent workforce for the region," said USI President H. Ray Hoops. "We are very grateful for Congressman Ellsworth's efforts on behalf of the University of Southern Indiana."
The FY 2008 Omnibus Appropriations measure was approved by the House and Senate earlier this week. The President is expected to sign the bill into law.
