Ellsworth Request for Vanderburgh County Emergency Warning Sirens Approved
WASHINGTON - Living up to his pledge to disclose projects that are on track to receive federal funding, Rep. Brad Ellsworth today announced Congress has approved federal funds for the installation of emergency warning sirens in Vanderburgh County. The $126,900 in funding was included as part of the FY 2008 Omnibus Appropriations measure approved by both chambers this week.
The funds were requested by the Vanderburgh County Commission and will be used to install nine outdoor emergency warning sirens. The sirens will be used to alert residents of approaching severe weather, hazardous material spills, and other emergencies requiring widespread communication to the public.
"Here in Vanderburgh County, it's no secret that a simple warning when severe weather approaches can save lives. These funds will strengthen Vanderburgh County's warning system and help ensure people in our community can take action to protect themselves during severe weather and other emergencies," said Ellsworth. "I am proud to have supported this project, and I hope the President will sign the bill into law soon."
The FY 2008 Omnibus Appropriations measure was approved by the House and Senate earlier this week. The President is expected to sign the bill into law.
