Ellsworth Request to Improve Ohio River Transportation Infrastructure Approved
WASHINGTON - Living up to his pledge to disclose projects that are on track to receive federal funding, Rep. Brad Ellsworth today announced Congress has approved federal funds to improve transportation infrastructure on the Ohio River. The $1 million in funding was included as part of the FY 2008 Omnibus Appropriations measure approved by both chambers this week.
The funds will be used to extend the John T. Myers lock chamber to 1,200 feet and allow the facility to manage tow traffic without significant delays.
"The Ohio River is a key component of Indiana's economy and future. These funds will improve the navigation of this important resource," said Ellsworth. "I am proud to have supported this project, and I hope the President will sign the bill into law soon."
The FY 2008 Omnibus Appropriations measure was approved by the House and Senate earlier this week. The President is expected to sign the bill into law.
