11.25.08 Aqua AIRS data available in netCDF

Aqua AIRS data products are now available in NetCDF from the Goddard Earth Sciences Data and Information Services Center (GES DISC). An on-the-fly HDF-EOS to NetCDF/CF1 converter has been developed for AIRS Level 2 (scene) and AIRS Level 3 (global grid) profiles of moisture, air temperature and trace gases and is available through the GES DISC data search and retrieval interface (Mirador). AIRS products available in NetCDF include Level 2 standard and support products as well as all Level 3 standard products (daily, 8-day, monthly).

Every attempt has been made to ensure that the converted files are compliant with the NetCDF Climate and Forecast (CF) Metadata Conventions. AIRS Level 3 gridded data in NetCDF are easy to open, read and use in such NetCDF-capable tools as IDV, McIDAS-V, GrADS and Panoply. AIRS Level 2 data in NetCDF include more complex geographic data structures and are designed primarily for use in IDV and McIDAS-V.

07.24.08 AIRS Version 5 Now Available to the Direct Broadcast Community

AIRS Direct Broadcast users now have access to the latest version of AIRS Production code, Version 5.2, which is currently in operation at GSFC, NOAA and JPL. Previously, Direct Broadcast users have only had access to Version 4 code. The release of Direct Broadcast code always lags behind deliveries to GSFC and NOAA, who received Version 5 code earlier this year. Direct Broadcast is available to AIRS data users who have Direct Broadcast receiving stations installed at their local sites and provide real-time access to AIRS data. Through an arrangement with JPL and NASA s Direct Readout Lab at GSFC, public access to the AIRS Direct Broadcast code is provided via International MODIS/AIRS Processing Package (IMAPP), maintained by the Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies (CIMSS) at the University of Wisconsin. AIRS Direct Broadcast code is available via the following link: http://cimss.ssec.wisc.edu/imapp/AIRS/AIRS_v5.2.html
