Dreier Joins House and Senate Colleagues at Historic New York Session

September 6, 2002

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman David Dreier (R-San Dimas), Chairman of the House Rules Committee, traveled to New York City today with a bipartisan group of House and Senate colleagues for a special session of Congress honoring the victims and heroes of the September 11th attacks. Today’s session was held in New York’s Federal Hall, where the United States Congress held its first meeting in March 1789. Congressman Dreier made the following statement:

"Last September, all of America united behind New York in their time of need. Today, we went to New York to let the families of the victims, and those who continue the recovery and rebuilding efforts know that we are still behind them. New York City faces a monumental task of rebuilding. The families that lost a loved one that day face the even greater task of rebuilding their lives. We cannot and will not waver in our support of them.

"We will never forget what happened in New York, Washington, and Pennsylvania on September 11th. One year later, there is no better place than Federal Hall, where our country inaugurated its first President and the Congress first met, for us to show the world that America will always be committed to freedom, and life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. While the terrorists took too much from us that day, they did not take what they truly sought. They will never take our love of freedom."
