Dreier Statement Regarding Transfer of
Power to Iraqis
June 28, 2004
MEXICO CITY, MEXICO - Congressman David Dreier (R-San Dimas), Chairman of
the House Rules Committee, issued the following statement today in reaction to
the early transfer of power to the Iraqi people:
“Today’s handover is a victory for the Iraqi people, and a victory for freedom
and democracy. The future of Iraq will not be determined by blood thirsty
terrorists. It will be determined by its people through democratic elections
and the rule of law. Prime Minister Allawi and President Al-Yawer are already
providing tremendous leadership for their people, and will no doubt continue
to do so. Their example sends a message loud and clear to the terrorists who
aim to derail Iraq’s future through violence - terrorism will not succeed.
“I also want commend Ambassador Paul Bremer for his outstanding service to our
country and to the Iraqis. The hard work of Ambassador Bremer, our troops,
thousands of workers, and most importantly, the Iraqi people, has laid a solid
foundation for Iraq’s future. More work remains to be done, but they should
all be proud today.”
