"No Matter How You Slice It, This Economy Is On a Roll"
June 4, 2004
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman David Dreier (R-San Dimas), Chairman of the House Rules Committee, hailed today's news on job growth - 248,000 new jobs in May and over one million jobs this year alone - and pointed to the fact that the number is very strong, even while doing a poor job of accounting for the fast-growing sectors of self employment and independent contracting.
"No matter how you slice it, this economy is on a roll," Dreier said. "The payroll survey has finally started to reflect the tremendous job growth our economy has been generating for months now. Thanks to lower taxes, expanded trade opportunities, and continued U.S. global economic leadership, jobs are being created all over the country.
"It is clear now that the earlier malaise over job growth was due to the fact that outmoded measures were doing a poor job of describing 21st century job growth. The Household and Payroll surveys are both providing strong evidence that opportunities abound. We must continue pursuing the policies that maintain this growth, until every American that wants a job has one."
