Dreier: Clean, Safe Energy Key to Economic, National Security

May 21, 2008

WASHINGTON, DC - Congressman David Dreier (R-Sam Dimas, CA), Rules Committee Ranking Republican, joined his House Republican colleagues today in unveiling a comprehensive energy policy that will provide a clean, safe domestic energy supply, help create jobs and move our economy forward.  Dreier said the rising cost of gas has made clear the need for an energy policy that increases supply here at home and reduces our reliance on foreign sources of oil.

“Some of us have argued for years that we need to increase our domestic energy supply through environmentally sound exploration and the construction of new refineries,” Dreier said.  “With the price of crude oil and gas climbing, it should be clear we can’t get by without our own energy supply anymore.  We need to take advantage of advances in technology and boost our domestic energy supply now.  Doing so will also help create jobs and provide double the economic stimulus - lower prices at the pump and more jobs and innovation opportunities.  The time to act on this agenda is now.”

The House Republican energy agenda will deliver the change America deserves - lower energy prices.  The fundamental principles of this agenda are: increasing the production of American-made energy in an environmentally-safe way, like promoting unconventional fuels such a coal-to liquids technology and recovering our vast oil shale reserves; promoting new, clean and reliable sources of energy , including the expansion of emissions-free nuclear power; cutting red tape and increasing the supply of American-made fuel and energy, including the regulations that have prevented the construction of a new refinery in nearly three decades; and encouraging greater energy efficiency by offering conservation tax incentives, including making home energy efficiency upgrades tax deductable.
