Dreier Votes to FY06 Budget
April 28, 2005
WASHINGTON, DC - Congressman Dreier voted to approve a fiscally sound budget framework that will meet our national security needs, while reducing the federal deficit by more than $170 billion over the next four years. The Fiscal Year (FY) 2006 Budget Committee Conference Report, H. Con. Res. 95, was approved by the House last night, 214-211. It was later approved by the Senate, and will now serve as the spending blueprint for FY '06.
"This budget makes our priorities clear," Dreier said. "Our national security and economic growth are the most important priorities. We know what a devastating attack can do to our budget and our economy, so it's absolutely necessary that we spend what's needed to defend this country. I'm also pleased that this budget will help us make progress toward our goal of reducing the deficit."
The budget also protects the tax relief that has been critical to keeping our economy strong through recession, financial scandals, a terrorist attack, and a war. "The tax relief is essential to stimulating our economy and increasing the flow of revenues to the federal treasury, further reducing the federal deficit. We can't tax our way out of a deficit, but we can grow our way out of it."
