Democrats Turn Their Backs on U.S. Troops

March 23, 2007

WASHINGTON, DC - Congressman David Dreier (R-San Dimas, CA), House Rules Committee Ranking Republican, issued the following statement on the Iraq Supplemental bill today:

“In the most cynical of votes, House Democrats approved, over bipartisan opposition, a disastrous, micro‑management strategy of tying the hands of our military commanders. They mandate withdrawal when those in the field of battle are unable to meet impossible and arbitrary timetables regardless of progress being made on the ground. Democrats did so in exchange for over $20 billion in pork without regard for the safety of those in the field, fighting against the insurgents that seek to defeat the democratic ideals taking hold in Iraq. With this vote, they are tying the hands of our troops and depriving them of the means to succeed.”
