Dreier: Democrats’ Budget Offers Wrong Prescription for America's Working Families

March 5, 2008

WASHINGTON, DC - Congressman David Dreier (R-San Dimas, CA), Rules Committee Ranking Republican, issued the following statement today regarding the House Democrats’ budget plan being considered in the House Budget Committee today:

"With the economy in a slowdown, the absolute last thing the American people need is a massive tax hike and increased Washington spending. Yet that's exactly what the Democratic budget prescribes. They are also refusing to deal with the looming fiscal crises posed by Social Security and Medicare. This approach was a bad idea last year and it's a bad idea this year.

"What we need to do is make tax relief permanent and control spending here in Washington in order to help our economy grow. Californians know what works - low taxes and less spending. Unfortunately, that's not what the Democrats are offering."
