House Approves Key Funding Legislation
Several Local Projects Receive Critical Funding

February 13, 2003

WASHINGTON - Congressman David Dreier (R-San Dimas) announced that the House has approved legislation that completes the Fiscal Year (FY) 2003 spending process and provides critical funding to several local projects. Included in the FY 03 Consolidated Budget Bill, H.J. Res. 2, is $10 million for the San Gabriel Restoration Fund, the ongoing effort to maintain a clean groundwater supply for the residents of the San Gabriel Valley. Transportation projects funded include $3 million for the Blue Line Construction Authority Intermodal Center in Pasadena, $2.9 million for a Gold Line Extension to Claremont, and $1.495 million for continuing work on the Alameda Corridor East project.

"This year's funding process has taken much longer than usual, but I'm pleased we have been able to secure this important local funding," Dreier said. "With the FY '04 funding process just around the corner, we have to get right back to work on maintaining a clean water supply, meeting our transportation needs, and securing funding for specialized local projects."

Also included in the bill is:

  • $157,000 for the purchase and installation of technology equipment at the City of Rancho Cucamonga's Emergency Operations Center;
  • $350,00 for Communications equipment and technology systems for the City of Upland's Emergency Operations Center;
  • $810,000 for the City of Rancho Cucamonga's Senior Center;
  • $1.5 million for YMCA after school programs in the City of Upland;
  • $1 million for Metrolink double tracking from Pomona to Montclair;
  • $1.5 million for the purchase of Compressed Natural Gas buses for Foothill Transit.
  • $300,000 for a regional public safety training facility in Arcadia;
  • $300,000 for construction of a Natural Gas Vehicle Fueling Station in Sierra Madre;
  • $1.35 million for the Joint Water Infrastructure Restoration Program in Arcadia and Sierra Madre; and,
  • $1 million for Rubio Canyon Debris Removal.

Dreier said he was particularly pleased to have secured the funding for the area transportation projects including the ACE project, the Gold Line, and Foothill Transit.

"We in Southern California are all too familiar with bad traffic and air pollution," Dreier said. "We need to look at every possible way we can improve the safety and efficiency of our transportation systems, whether it be increased train service or cleaner running buses. These funds will help us do just that."
