SANDLIN HELPS PASS FUNDING PACKAGE WITH NUMEROUS Washington, D.C., December 18, 2007 –The U.S. House of Representatives late last night passed a consolidated or “omnibus” appropriations bill that includes funding for numerous South Dakota priorities. The funding package, which passed with Rep. Herseth Sandlin’s support, combined 11 of the 12 appropriations bills that Congress must pass to fund government operations and agencies for the remainder of Fiscal Year 2008. Several initiatives important to South Dakota received funding requested by Rep. Herseth Sandlin. These initiatives include:
Rep. Herseth Sandlin said, “The resources included in this bill provide funding for projects that are critical to South Dakota’s future. These investments will help develop necessary infrastructure, keep our communities and families safe, grow our rural economy and encourage innovation and development. I’m proud to have played a role in advocating for these proposals over the past year, and I am hopeful that the bill will soon head to the President’s desk for his signature.” The omnibus combined the appropriations bills that authorize funding for initiatives under the jurisdiction of the following 11 Appropriations Subcommittees: Agriculture; Commerce, Justice and Science; Energy and Water; Financial Services; Interior and Environment; Labor, Homeland Security, Health and Human Services and Education; Legislative Branch; Military Construction and Veterans Affairs; State and Foreign Operations and Transportation, Housing and Urban Development.
