REP. STEPHANIE HERSETH RECEIVES “SMALL BUSINESS ADVOCATE” AWARD

Small Business Survival Committee Honors Herseth for Pro-Small Business Voting Record
September 15, 2004, Washington, DC – The Small Business Survival Committee (SBSC) presented its “Small Business Advocate” Award to Representative Stephanie Herseth today. The prestigious award honors Members of the 108th Congress whose voting record demonstrates a strong commitment to America’s small business and entrepreneur sector. This award recognizes Rep. Herseth’s commitment to being an independent voice in Congress for issues that matter to South Dakota.

“Small businesses have shouldered much of the responsibility in getting our economy back to strong levels of growth,” said SBSC President and CEO Karen Kerrigan. “By voting for key small business initiatives, Rep. Herseth has played a vital role in encouraging job creation and business investment. The measures Rep. Herseth voted for will help small businesses stay strong, innovative, and competitive for the long term,” she added.

Rep. Herseth said, “I am proud to receive this recognition of my commitment to small business. South Dakota relies on its small business owners and employees as key drivers of economic growth, and I am dedicated in Congress to creating conditions in which small businesses can thrive.”

Key votes rated by SBSC ranged from tax relief and investment incentives for small business owners and entrepreneurs; regulatory reform and modernization; access to affordable health coverage; stock option preservation for small firms and their workforce; and expanding access to international markets.

The Small Business Survival Committee is a national nonprofit small business advocacy organization with 70,000 members nationwide. Noted anti-tax advocate Grover Norquist sits on SBSC’s Board of Directors. Norquist is also president of Americans for Tax Reform, and serves on the Board of Directors of the National Rifle Association and the American Conservative Union.
