US CONGRESSMAN
COSTELLO STATEMENT ON TRANSPORTATION COALITION MEETING Collinsville, Illinois -- U.S. Congressman Jerry Costello
issued the following statement regarding the Illinois Transportation Coalition
meeting held this morning in Collinsville, Illinois. Congressman Costello's
District Chief of Staff, Frank Miles attended the meeting. Costello said "Illinois did well in the last round of TEA-21 funding
in 1998, ranking 8 out of 50 states in overall funding." Costello said that while Illinois did well in the last round of
funding, he anticipates that we will do better in the reauthorization bill that
is expected to be acted upon in the United States Congress in 2003. Costello
noted that the Speaker of the US House of Representatives is from Illinois and
that two senior members of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee
will help write the reauthorization bill when it comes before the committee
in the US House. Costello is a senior member of the committee, along with Cong
Bill Lipinski from Chicago. Costello said "I expect to be very active in promoting the interests
of Illinois with my colleague, Congressman Lipinski and other members of the
Transportation and Infrastructure committee". Costello welcomed the support from the Transportation Coalition
of Illinois and any other group or individual who will work to promote transportation
improvements in our state. ###
