Washington - U.S. Congressman Jerry Costello (D-IL) announced today that the Chester Fire Department has received a $239,400 Assistance to Firefighters grant through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The grant will be matched by $ 26,600 in local funds and will be used to purchase a firefighting vehicle. Costello cosponsored the legislation that created the Assistance to Firefighters program.
"Our first responders need additional resources to help protect our communities," said Costello. "These funds will enhance the quality of life in the Chester area."
Costello is a senior member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. He is the ranking Democrat on the Economic Development, Public Buildings and Emergency Management Subcommittee.
