Chester, IL - A World War II veteran from Chester, Illinois was honored by receiving his military medals on Friday, January 6, 2006 by U.S. Congressman Jerry Costello (D-IL). Congressman Costello presented the medals to Melbert Kueker at the Congressman's District Office located in the Chester City Hall.
Mr. Kueker served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II from 1943 to 1945. He served in the Pacific Theatre and fought in the battle of Iwo Jima.
Congressman Costello awarded Mr. Kueker with the World War II Victory medal, the American Campaign medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign medal, the Presidential Unit Citation Ribbon, the Honorable Service Lapel Pin and the Honorable Discharge Button.
Mr. Kueker previously contacted Congressman Costello's office asking for assistance in securing his medals.
