Washington - U.S. Congressman Jerry Costello (D-IL) is participating today in a House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee tour of hurricane damage in Alabama, Louisiana and Mississippi. The group will be paying particular attention to storm damage to roads, bridges and other infrastructure to assess the need for any additional federal appropriations as part of the relief effort. Congress has already approved $62.3 billion and will likely consider another emergency funding bill in the near future.
"Now that rescue operations are completed and that the recovery effort is well underway, I wanted to come here and see the destruction in person," said Costello, a senior member of the Committee. "I believe it is important to get a first hand look at the needs of these states and the plans to rebuild before voting on additional funding."
