Washington - U.S. Congressman Jerry Costello (D-IL) announced today that Madison and St. Clair Counties have been awarded formula grants from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for fiscal year 2005. The funds will be used for the rehabilitation of homeowner and rental properties, including: water, sewer, street and other public service facility improvements, handicap accessibility and special needs housing and the clearance of unsafe structures. In addition, funds will help residents with down payment and closing-cost assistance.
"This funding will allow for improvements to facilities to better serve low-income families and to help them obtain safe and affordable housing," Costello said. "I strongly support HUD funds, which assist local housing authorities in their efforts to enhance public housing."
